This season’s Single Origin is sourced from 84 smallholder farmers affiliated with the Asociación Multiactiva de Productores Café Excelencia de Ataco Tolima (Café Excelencia). These producers cultivate coffee in Tolima, Colombia—a region renowned for its rugged landscapes, diverse biodiversity, and optimal conditions for cultivating high-quality, specialty-grade coffee.

Although Tolima possesses ideal growing conditions, it has only recently started to gain recognition as a coffee-producing area. Historically, its mountainous terrain and limited infrastructure posed significant challenges for access. Additionally, the region was heavily impacted by the presence of FARC, Colombia’s former leftist guerrilla group, which contributed to its isolation and a reputation for violence and instability. Until approximately 2012, travel to Tolima was restricted, and coffee buyers had little opportunity to reach local producers. However, as peace negotiations advanced and security improved, Tolima began to open up, unveiling a region abundant in potential and resilience.
