Coffee Facts

The Ichamara factory is operated by the Gikaru Farmers Cooperative Society and serves about 1,050 smallholder famre members.

The farmers grow an average of 200 trees on their farms, which are less than 1 hectare in size. They also typically grow tea, corn, and bananas alongside the coffee. About 200 of the members of the Gikaru F.C.S. are women.

The factory has one depulping machine and four soaking pits where the washing water is purified and prevented from contaminating the processing tanks.
