A classic, crowd pleaser of an espresso from Daterra Estate in Brazil. Rich, rounded and sweet this coffee is characteristic of the area, with a flavour profile of clean dark chocolate, sweet nuttiness and marzipan that sits exceptionally well as an espresso and in milk.
We feel, with Daterra's help, that we have achieved our goal with the Baron - developing and improving a classically received espresso with industry-focused innovation, sustainability and ethical transparency in mind. This coffee is set to be a winner in the cup and a winner for the environment.
We have seen first hand the production of speciality coffee is grounded on environmental preservation and social development. Daterra means “from the earth” and was conceived in the 80s after previously starting as a cattle and avocado venture. Repairing the ecosystem and land was a priority and the dedication to the environment is a constant theme. Daterra is Rainforest Alliance and UTZ certified and in addition, only sell to sustainably certified importers.
Even with 200 permanent workers and 100 seasonal (picking) staff, everyone knows everyone in the business and they really look after their workers. Pay rates aside, there are cooked meals provided all day everyday, regular social gatherings and great free health care. You can feel the love in the business, the passion for the product and for pushing it forward together.
Daterra Estate is the first farm in the world to receive LEVEL A CERTIFICATION from the Rainforest Alliance.
