Coffee Facts

The Vunga Cooperative began in 2009 and is located in Nyabihu district in the Western Region of Rwanda. Vunga includes 260 total members, 186 of which are men and 74 are women from the surrounding areas between 1650 and 2000 masl.  This coffee is fermented for 6 hours and dried on 25 raised African beds for 35 days.

Vunga is a well-established small cooperative, whose partnership with Raw Material and MTCo helped Vunga increase their quality, fetch a higher price for their coffee and introduce them to new markets. Vunga is a well-known washing station, though it is located in an area in Rwanda where very little coffee is produced, it has a reputation for producing extremely high-quality coffee. In 2012, Vunga placed 13th in the Rwanda Cup of Excellence and 4th in 2014.
