Coffee Facts
Huehuetenango is one of the highest producing areas in Guatemala and has become well known for some incredible coffees. The region has great access to water through its many streams and rivers – wet mills are therefore relatively close to any farm in this region which helps to streamline processing of the ripe red cherries.
This year we are working with Edy Martin who is a third generation coffee farmer. He inherited the farm from his parents who acquired it from his grandfather who had purchased the land in the 1940s.
Edy and his brothers have always taken an interest in coffee production and have worked on the farm since they were children. Edy is now a well accomplished and educated grower who has managed to increase both the quantity and quality of coffee produced here by introducing agronomical techniques and expertise helping the family navigate the many challenges of coffee production in today’s day and age.
This area receives plenty of rainfall and has fantastic clay and limestone soils with plenty of shade trees which really contribute to the depth of flavour in the cup. The acidity of this coffee is grape-like and is well integrated adding to the overall quality of the cup. It is a fantastic example of coffees from this region and provides great versatility thanks to its well-rounded flavour profile.
