This batch is one of the great discoveries of our colleague Lara in the
Oromia region, Ethiopia. Mensur Aba Hika is the producer and has
been dedicated to growing coffee for more than 40 years. Thanks to
changes in the regulation of the coffee market in Ethiopia, we are now
able to work with Mensur directly and without intermediaries.
The variety in this lot is very special as it is a traditional local Ethiopian
strain catalogued as 74110 that was developed in the 1970s at the Jimma
Agricultural Research Center (JARC). This variety was selected from a
‘mother tree’ in the village of Bishari, in the Oromia region.
The process of this coffee begins with the collection of cherries by
hand, selecting only those at the optimum point of ripeness.
Afterwards, the coffee beans are transferred to African beds where
they are left to dry in the sun until they achieve the desired degree of
