Coffee Facts

Nestled within the towering heights of the Mazateca mountain range, which soars over 2000 meters above sea level, is a region steeped in rich tradition. Named after the indigenous Mazatecos, this area is renowned for its coffee, cultivated using ancestral methods that eschew chemicals in favor of natural agroforestry practices. Here, coffee plants thrive among a biodiverse array of crops and trees, painting a picture of sustainable agriculture in harmony with nature.

In this vibrant ecosystem, Ensambles (our trusted partnered importer) has established a regional operation to forge a closer connection with the smallholders of la Mazateca. Their approach is hands-on, purchasing parchment directly from these local farmers while providing invaluable direct feedback and technical assistance right in the fields.

The coffee produced here is aptly named Tejao, a Mazateco term meaning "eagle’s nest." This name not only symbolizes the high elevations where these coffees are grown but also pays homage to a small town in Oaxaca called Huautla, which is home to our main lab and sits at the heart of this coffee's journey from bean to cup.
