Colombia

Overview

Colombia is synonymous with coffee.  Second only to Brazil in coffee production volume, the location and quality of the farms in Colombia are renowned for making high quality coffee.  There are over a dozen coffee growing regions in Colombia, mainly at the higher end of the altitude range (1700 - 2300m).  Caturra is the most common variety grown in the country, but Castillo and Typica are also widely cultivated.

Taste & Quality

Colombian coffees tend to be big, rich and chocolatey, but there is such variation in flavours across the country that can be exploited by expert roasters.  Take a look below at some of our speciality Colombian single-origin examples.

Traceability

Due to the bureaucracy of the industry it is sometimes difficult to maintain traceability for Colombian coffee.  However, the speciality coffee sector has been working hard to maintain traceability - meaning it is possible at that end of the market.
