Coffee Facts
Finca Edgar was acquired by the Aguilera family 15 years ago and is named in honour of Edgar Aguilera, the father of the Hermanos Aguilera. Edgar was a pioneer in coffee production in the Los Robles region, having begun his efforts 60 years ago.
At the time of acquisition, the farm was primarily used for livestock, as its location in a particularly windy area of the West Valley made it initially unsuitable for coffee cultivation. However, driven by a passion for coffee and a commitment to innovation, the family undertook significant management efforts.
They planted cypress trees to create natural fences and windbreaks, facilitating the establishment of the first coffee lots. It took approximately five to six years to develop these initial lots, which ultimately became among the best farms for the Aguilera family, propelling them into the Cup of Excellence with their Geisha and San Roque varietals.
Today, the farm is cultivated with six different coffee varieties, one of the most recent being the Milenio. This varietal is notable for its resistance to leaf rust and good yield, having been planted four years ago. The results have been promising, as it boasts an outstanding cup profile. The Milenio is an F1 hybrid, resulting from a cross between T5296 and the Ethiopian landrace Rume Sudan.
As an additional point of fun, this coffee also recently featured at a public tasting at Sale Moon for a Coffee x Music Pairing event.
