How was the Roastery founded, what was the inspiration?

I started Carve Coffee Roasters in April 2020 with my girlfriend Sophie. We wanted to offer people quality, fresh, tasty speciality coffee without any judgment. We believe speciality coffee doesn’t have to be complicated or pretentious, we all deserve great coffee. Through Carve Coffee we have been able to combine our love of everything coffee with our passion for outdoor adventure. In the first National Lockdown we were both furloughed from our full-time jobs in the outdoor industry giving us the opportunity to roast, taste, brew, create content and build Carve Coffee. We are continuing to grow, sharing our love for speciality coffee and experiencing some local Dorset adventures; climbing, spear fishing, surfing, mountain biking all on our doorstep.

What's your favourite part about working at the Roastery?

My favourite part about working at the roastery is on those dark, pre-sunrise winter mornings. Cranking up the roaster, heating up the roastery, podcast or music on, amazing roasting smells whirling around, it becomes my own little roasting bubble and all before the day has even started.

What's your proudest accomplishment?

Securing our first coffee shop wholesale account was a huge moment for us. Being a new company, it was hard putting the feelers out and being rejected or not hearing back from people. But for experienced Baristas, now coffee shop owners, to call and say ‘your coffee tastes incredible and we love your branding’, was amazing. Better still, coming from coffee lovers who had been using some big brand coffee in their old coffee shops. It felt good to enter the wholesale world but also stay true to our company values.

What three words best describe your Roastery?
Adventurous - Honest - Ambitious.
    What’s your favourite place to enjoy a coffee, and what coffee would that be?

    It’s got to be the post-morning surf coffee for me. A lightly roasted, washed African Single Origin, brewed up on the campervan hob with views of a sunny surf beach.
