Sascha from Hot Roasted Love Speciality Coffee Roaster

How was the Roastery founded, what was the inspiration?

The first great specialty coffee in my life – served in a small and meanwhile unfortunately closed café in Reykjavik in 2011 – led to enthusiastic trial-and-error roasting at home on a small plastic popcorn machine. From that day on, coffee roasting exploits escalated quickly. In November 2014 the first coffee was sold out of our shared part-time office. To me, Hot Roasted Love still seems like some kind of very ambitious garage roastery embedded in a community office space.

What's your favourite part about working at the Roastery?

To experience that the small coffee roastery business is full of outstanding ethically driven and lovely people. One of the best parts at work is cupping new samples. When you find an unexpected gem or exactly what you need to complete your actual range.

What's your proudest accomplishment?

In three years of serving filter coffee at our roastery cafe, the amount of milk or sugar requests dropped to zero.

What three words best describe your Roastery?

Direct-Trade – Passion – Respect

What’s your favourite place to enjoy a coffee, and what coffee would that be?

In the wild and mostly it´s an Ethiopian fruit bomb coffee.

Finally, what Dog & Hat combination would you choose?

Mongrel street dog with a pirate’s hat
