Ask the Roaster - Jeroen from Rum Baba
How was the Roastery founded, what was the inspiration?
It all started by experiencing the new wave of espresso brewing in New Zealand some 10 years ago, then the true click came at that time with a travel to Africa ending up at coffee farmers homestays and discovering the whole diversity of varietals, processing and taste characteristics. There the foundation of our roastery has been shaped.
What's your favourite part about working at the Roastery?
Roasting new coffees and discovering unexpected extra layers of flavour characteristics.
What's your proudest accomplishment?
The best has yet to come! All jokes aside, I think it’s more the pride we get when people genuinely enjoy our coffee is our proudest accomplishment.
What three words best describe your Roastery?
Team - Play - Dedication
What’s your favourite place to enjoy a coffee, and what coffee would that be?
We are all suckers for filter brew at rum baba so I think that would be the beverage of choice. Ideally at our patio with a morning sun on our face. Maybe a great washed Sidamo would suit that occasion best.
Finally, what Dog & Hat combination would you choose?
Berger Picard with a cycling casquette.
