How was the Roastery founded, what was the inspiration?

Small Batch Coffee Roasters was founded in 2006 to bring high-quality speciality coffee to Brighton. Back then, there were very few speciality roasters in the UK so we were really at the forefront of putting the UK on the map to set the standard of what great coffee should be like.

What's your favourite part about working at the Roastery?

I could say an endless amount of reasons, but to narrow it down to few.
I love being a part of a team that has such passion and drive to create and develop good coffee. A morning here at Small Batch will always start with a good brew and a chat about a coffee we like or recently tried.
As you can imagine, being a roaster here I am exposed to a plethora of different coffees, which only enable me to develop my skills further and grow my curiosity for experimentation.

What's your proudest accomplishment?

Very recently our flagship blend Goldstone won Gold in the Great British Food awards.

What's three words best describe your roastery?

Wholesome - Dynamic - Industrious

What's your favourite place to enjoy a coffee, and what coffee would that be?

I’d have to say at the roastery, I enjoy being there in the early mornings. With the weather getting colder, a coffee is an absolute must. My choice of coffee at the moment is our Colombia La Finca.

Winey/boozy/fermented

Where would you recommend for food and drink in your local area?

Plateau and Bincho Yakitori  are always winners.

Finally, what Dog & Hat combination would you choose?
A Golden retriever in a 10-gallon hat.
