Gwilym Davies and Petra Vesela opened the naughty dog roastery in 2018, combining their talents for all things coffee related and their love of two naughty dogs, their dachshunds Maja and Mrs Jenny Brown.

Petra’s life changed in 2004 when she opened her own coffee shop, U Zlatého korálku in Jílové situated just outside Prague. Coffee became a passion and Petra went on to judge and compete successfully in competitions. Twice winning the Czech National Championships. After passing the sensory exams Petra became head judge at the World Barista Championships and proudly went on to judge the final at the World Championships in (Melbourne, Rimini and Seattle).  In 2011 Petra published her own book called Kniha o Kave (A book about Coffee) considered to be the Czech coffee bible. 3 years later Petra sold her coffee shop to focus on barista training academy that she began in 2008.

Gwilym’s story in coffee began in 1996 while in New Zealand, moving to London Gwilym managed several cafes before beginning is famously short competition career of just 3 months. In 2009 he became the World Barista Champion, shortly afterwards he opened Prufrock in London, now co-owned by Square Mile Coffee. In 2013 he moved to the Czech Republic where he opened his training centre offering SCA courses. More recently Gwilym has challenged himself with learning more about roasting and sourcing the very best.

This speciality coffee power couple now run a roastery and a training centre together, in Jílové u Prahy, a town in the West Prague district of the Czech Republic with their 2 dachshunds Maja and Mrs Jenny Brown that inspired the name, Maja a playful but shy pup and the sleepy Miss Jenny Brown who has very unusual markings, are very important members of the roastery team, overseeing the training and roasting from their baskets. Taking payment in snacks and belly scratches they are also the roastery’s security team.
