For the last few months we've been working behind the scenes on something pretty exciting and we're very pleased to introduce you to our first transatlantic roaster - Rabbit Hole Roasters from Montreal in Quebec, Canada.
The rest of the coffee lineup this month has a distinctly Yorkshire flavour to it with our local North Yorkshire roaster Roost Coffee joining returning favourites North Star and Casa Espresso from the west of the county.
Rabbit Hole Roasters, Montreal, Canada
Ever since we brought Onyx and Cat and Cloud into the subscription as special purchases, we've been looking for a way to bring coffee from the Americas to the wider subscription.
We finally settled on Canada as our location of choice and got in touch with David at Rabbit Hole Roasters in Montreal on the East Coast who got some samples out to us that really impressed. Cue lots of boring documents and regulations to read through and logistics to finalise, but it will all be worth it :-)
If anyone wants to learn more about David and Rabbit Hole's journey through coffee, you can head over to either our YouTube Channel or our Podcast where you can find our interview with David.
Rabbit Hole Roasters has a real focus on emerging coffee origins and we have selected a great coffee from the Lafu washing station in the Yunnan province of China. This coffee reminded us of a Cherry Bakewell with sweet notes of Almonds and Cherry.
All our members will be receiving this Omni-Roast coffee to enjoy.
Roost Coffee, Malton, Yorkshire
Next up, joining our 'furthest-away' roaster this month we also have our closest roaster - Roost Coffee from the market tow of Malton a mere 8 miles away up the road from Dog and Hat HQ.
Roost have been caffeinating our little corner of North Yorkshire since 2015 and it's great to be able to finally feature them this month.
David and Ruth at Roost have gone out of their way to source us an amazing washed Ethiopia fruit-bomb of a coffee with an eye-wateringly high SCA cup score from the Koke cooperative in the Yirgacheffe region of Ethiopia.
This coffee is full of fruity notes - Blueberry, Cherry, Strawberry and White Grape - and all our subscribers will get the chance to enjoy this Omni-Roast coffee this month.
North Star Coffee, Leeds, Yorkshire
We're continuing our theme of supporting roasters that helped us in our hour of need... and this month we welcome back Hols and Krag from North Star Roasters over in Leeds.
Early last year, we had a slight hiccup when a roaster accidentally sent the wrong coffee. At exactly the same time our plumber drilled through the mains electricity cable to the office leading to 5 Northern Power vans being parked outside for 2 days and a rather large trench being dug around the office. In the midst of all this, after a quick phone call to Hols, we picked up a batch of Rwanda Huye Mountain coffee to save the subscription.
This month we have North Star's washed Omni-Roast Nicaragua coffee with sweet notes of Cantaloupe Melon, Apple and Caramel for all our 3-bag subscribers to enjoy.
Casa Espresso, Bradford, Yorkshire
There are some origins that are synonymous with a particular processing method - think Kenya and washed coffee, Brazil and pulped natural, etc - another one for that list is Guatemala and washed processing. However, Nino over at Casa Espresso had a natural processed Guatemala on his menu and as we'd never tried that combination we asked him to ping us over a sample. The result is very different from a traditional washed Guatemala and comes with Stewed Plum and delicate floral notes of Rose and Parma Violet.
All our 4 bag members will be receiving this coffee.
Dialled In Dark(er)
The Dialled In Dark(er) members this month will be getting a Mexico (darker roast) from Rabbit Hole Roasters and a Honduras coffee from Roost Coffee.
Dialled In Decaf
Both Rabbit Hole Roasters and Roost Coffee are also supplying the Decaf this month with a Mexico and Guatemala coffee respetively.
