About
All of our speciality coffees are 100% traceable and ethically sourced. We build direct, long term relationships with producers and trading partners throughout the supply train and pay the coffee farmers we work with significantly above Fairtrade prices. We offer a welcoming and supportive work environment to our roastery team in Aberfeldy, together with good rates of pay. Every year our team plants trees in the Highlands to offset our carbon footprint. We are totally committed to zero waste and making our impact on the planet a positive one.
Glen Lyon coffee was set up by Fiona Grant back in 2011 at the top of, one of the most beautiful glens in the Scottish Highlands. She installed a five-kilo roaster into the bothy next to her house and started selling small batch roasts in local farmers markets. The first years were the hardest with no staff and no heating in the bothy through the winter. The biggest challenge was getting lorries to deliver green coffee on a single track road, with several having to be dug out of snow drifts!
In 2014 we moved the roastery lock, stock and barrel to Aberfeldy, a cool little town on the banks of the River Tay. Here we could focus on the wholesale side of the business. We invested in a 12 kilo Probat roaster (which we still use today) and employed our first member of staff to help roast and deliver barista training. The business has grown steadily and we are now a team of six, supplying freshly roasted speciality coffee across Scotland.
Dog and Hat
We have been on the lookout for a Bolivian coffee for quite some time (it is one ofthe rarer origins we've included at Dog and Hat). We knew that Glen Lyon did some amazing work sourcing from the country after meeting them at the Glasgow Coffee Festival. Now, Glen Lyon don't tend to work with coffee subscription companies, so it was great that they agreed to start collaborating with us to bring their coffee to our members.
