About
Hoppenworth & Ploch is a micro-roastery located in Frankfurt, Germany.
Our mission is to find special raw materials and maintain their individual characteristics rather than disguise it. To do this we connect with producers and importers, as well as other merchants and individuals with whom we remain in contact with about all steps in the coffee value chain.
Our goal is to bring awareness of the individual effort of our producers and beyond to show the variety of coffee available.
We also constantly trying to expand our knowledge and improve our standards. To control as much of the value chain from bean to the cup is our goal and our first direct import of the Amkeni coffee group from Tanzania is a milestone for us in this respect.
Our goal for our roast profiles is brightness with a very high sweetness and complexity of coffee. This is inevitably accompanied by a certain degree of acidity.
As an interesting fact - Matthias Hoppenworth won the 2011 German Latte Art Championships and then finished 8th in the World's that same year... so we know where to go to get some tips
Dog and Hat
When people think about speciality coffee from Germany, they typically veer towards Berlin to get their fix... but the whole of Germany is full of amazing roasters. Dave has good friends in Frankfurt who brought Hoppenworth and Ploch to our attention. This is a roastery that has direct trade arrangements with farmers in Tanzania and also the most amazing selection of cakes in their café… though unfortunately we can’t ship the cakes to you.
