The name “Cosecha de Mujer,” literally meaning “harvest of women,” highlights the dedication of women farmers both on the farm and at home, including childcare, meal preparation, and more.

Prosperidad de Chirinos brilliantly took up the challenge of gender disparities by structuring the activities of Cosecha de Mujer. The program places particular emphasis on developing leadership skills, agriculture, improving coffee quality, and small business management. Part of the program also aims to support food agriculture to promote self-sufficiency.Founded in 1968, Prosperidad de Chirinos today has 817 members, a quarter of whom are women. Overall, the cooperative farms around 2,200 hectares in San Ignacio, Cajamarca. The high altitudes of the San Ignacio mountain region provide ideal conditions for growing premium coffees.

The cooperative offers a wide range of programs and opportunities for its agricultural members. A committee dedicated to youth has also been set up to support and empower young producers. In addition, a partnership with the National University of Jaén promotes access to university education for 10 children of cooperative members each year.
