How was the Roastery founded, what was the inspiration?

 

Abracadabra was founded by Clint Hunt in 2016. He started up roasting at home and offering V60 pour overs at the local farmer’s market. We found our current roastery in 2017 and hit the ground running! Our main objective with this space is to do as much as possible within the confines of our existing square footage. Thus far we’ve been successful. Not only have we built our wholesale, retail, and online business here, we’ve also thrown dance parties and hosted pop
ups with rad local chefs serving wood fired pizza, tacos, even ramen! Thankfully we’ve just purchased a new building with a few acres so we can make our wildest coffee dreams true.

 

- What’s your favourite part about working at the Roastery?

 

Oh boy it’s hard to say. Probably the most fun part is getting to develop roast profiles for new coffees. I like the mystery of trying to uncover what flavours are hidden in the beans.

 

- What’s your proudest accomplishment,?

 

I feel very grateful for the opportunity I’ve had to take over as head roaster here. I’m very grateful that I’ve been able to adapt and learn so much in the last couple years.

 

- Three words that best describe your Roastery     

 

Cozy, Collaborative, Persistent

 

- What’s your favourite place to enjoy a coffee, and what coffee would that be?

 

One of my favorite places to have a coffee is on my porch in the summertime. I couldn’t pick a specific coffee, even if I tried.

 

- What roaster do you roast on?

 

I roast on a matte black Diedrich IR-12 drum roaster.

 

- What is your favourite snack or treat to have to accompany your coffee?

 

I don’t know that’s this is necessarily a good snack to accompany coffee, but I like eating potato chips while roasting.

 

- What would you drink if there was no coffee?

 

Kombucha

 

- What is your favourite tasting notes to find in coffee?

 

I’m most partial to coffees with topical fruit or floral notes.

 

- Where would you recommend for food and drink in your local area?

 

I’d recommend Lawson’s Finest Liquids for anyone looking for some quality brews.

 

- Finally... what Dog & Hat combination would you choose?

 

Definitely my dog, Rocky (English mastiff), wearing a cowboy hat.
