Ask the Roaster - Sprout
How was the Roastery founded, what was the inspiration?
It was founded to create more of a community in coffee and share our coffee
knowledge.
Coming from Australia we wanted to share what we had learnt there and learn more from the coffee community here.
What's your favourite part about working at the Roastery?
Unlike a lot of roasteries which are more like a warehouse set up, Sprout is more like a super cozy hangout. We have couches, carpets, murals on the walls etc. Then in between these is our Giesen roaster, Kees Van Der Westen coffee machines and of course a massive pile of coffee beans.
What's your proudest accomplishment?
I don’t know what my proudest accomplishment is…I guess there are small wins
everywhere that I can appreciate. Like walking down the street and seeing people walking around with takeaway cups from coffee bars that serve your beans. Creating a slack group for coffee roasters in The Netherlands to get to know each other better and to challenge each others ideas is pretty cool too.
What three words best describe your Roastery?
Cozy - Striving - Together.
What’s your favourite place to enjoy a coffee, and what coffee would that be?
At my Grandmothers farmhouse on the Dutch countryside, she would serve the most terrible coffee you’ve ever tasted out of her super old French Press. There is something really special there for me.
Finally, what Dog & Hat combination would you choose?
When I move here from down under I brought my Labradoodle with me…So
obviously a Labradoodle wearing an Australian cork hat.
