MEET THE ROASTER

Ernest Test Hundred House Coffee

About Ernest Test Hundred House Coffee

Shropshire

Hundred House is an independent speciality coffee roastery built through a hands-on, quality-first approach to coffee. We focus on expressive, carefully sourced coffees, long-term relationships and considered roasting practices; informed by over 20 years in speciality coffee, art and culture.

Dog & Hat Coffee Club

Coffee, Art & Community

We founded Hundred House in 2016 after building careers across both art and speciality coffee, bringing together a shared passion for coffee and culture. From the beginning, we wanted to build slowly and intentionally, creating a company centred around exceptional coffee and a considered experience at every touchpoint; from the cafés and spaces that serve it, to the way it feels in your hands, through to the extraordinary coffees themselves.

At its core, Hundred House was conceived as more than a roastery alone; a space where coffee, creativity and community could meaningfully intersect, and where supporting artists and creative practices would become part of the fabric of the business itself.

Art & Industry

Founded by arts graduates, rooted in creativity and shaped by deep industry experience, the arts run through everything we do, from how we package our coffee to creative sensory experiences, artist commissions and industry collaborations.

We work with artists, designers, musicians and writers on commissions, projects and partnerships, and through Freak & Unique, artworks are released alongside our coffees, making art accessible while forming a direct line of support into artists’ practices. Supporting the arts through industry, one bag at a time.

Combining Expertise

Together Matt Wade & Anabelle de Gersigny run Hundred House Coffee.

Matt has been roasting speciality coffee for over 20 years. After graduating in Fine Art, he moved to New Zealand where he worked as a barista at a number of different coffee houses and roasters. Bringing this knowledge back with him to London, he played a leading role in the rapidly emerging coffee scene that began ascending in the city from 2002 onwards, becoming one of the UK’s first licensed Q-Graders and a graduate of LA’s Coffee Chemistry. Matt has won a number of awards and worked at several key roasters internationally including Head Roaster at Union Hand Roasted. He is the co-founder of Nightjar Coffee, Dubai.

Anabelle de Gersigny manages the roastery, working closely and creatively with clients and building on our community projects. She implements the company's drive to bring art to industry. She was the founder of Art-iculate.org and the Safina Radio Project. Previous creative roles have been with Hauser + Wirth (London), Phaidon Press (London) and CAPHouse Studios (Japan), Guggenheim, Louvre and Zayed National Museum (Abu Dhabi), Tashkeel Studios (Dubai). She has curated numerous art and design exhibitions, working on publications, online platforms, magazines and directly with artists and designers. She completed her MA in Critical Writing at the Royal College of Art in 2020.
