How to Brew AeroPress Coffee at Home

The AeroPress is the smooth operator of the coffee world: quick, forgiving and always up for a good time. In this easy AeroPress brew guide, we’ll show you how to use the inverted method with 18g of freshly ground coffee, 250g of water and a brew ratio of around 1:14.

The result? A cup that’s softer than espresso, fuller than a V60, and nicely balanced in the middle, like the coffee equivalent of a well-timed high five. Bloom it, steep it, flip it, press it, then tweak the grind, brew time or water temperature until your cup is singing.

  • Let it sit and extract.
  • Meanwhile, attach and rinse the filter cap.

5. Flip & Press (1:30–2:00)

  • Carefully flip onto your cup.
  • Press slowly for ~30 seconds.
  • Stop when you hear the hiss (the AeroPress saying “I’m done”).

✓ Dialling In Your Cup

If your brew tastes…off, here’s your troubleshooting spellbook:

Too sour / thin (fast brew)
→ Grind finer or steep longer

Too bitter / muddy (slow brew)
→ Grind coarser or press sooner

Too strong
→ Add a bit of bypass water after brewing

⭑ Pro Tips

Water temp
→ ~85–92°C (slightly cooler than V60)

Paper vs metal filter

  • Paper = cleaner, brighter
  • Metal = fuller body, more oils

☺︎ Flavour Vibe Guide

  • Smooth, rounded, forgiving
  • Less sharp than V60, less intense than espresso
  • Somewhere in the middle… like a well-balanced chord 🎶
