Named with their principles on our sleeve, Sanctuary Coffee has equipped coffee lovers since 2021 to enjoy and experience exceptional coffee while giving everything they can to animal charities.

By sharing their profits, they've already donated over £15,000 to their partnered rescues.

Now they want to create a reliable fund for animal charities all over the UK using what they know best: roasting truly exceptional coffee.

Sometimes in life you're offered a glimpse of the reality that changes your understanding forever. In the March of 2019, this is exactly what happened for Marcus & Rhian.

After moving into their first flat in London and started thinking about rescuing a greyhound. As they researched the adoption process, they quickly realised just how many dogs in the UK need homes each year, and how much pressure rescue centres are under. Reading stories of volunteers selling belongings, remortgaging homes or skipping meals to fund food and medicine for animals left them feeling that something had to be done.

At the time, Marcus was working in speciality coffee, first at Redemption Roasters and later as Head Roaster at Kiss the Hippo. His work took him into competition-level roasting, with coffees used in UK and international championships. But while his coffee career was moving forward, the situation facing rescues stayed firmly in Marcus and Rhian’s minds.
