Kirinyaga, in Central Kenya, sits on the slopes of Mt. Kenya and is rich in volcanic soil, forests, wildlife, and abundant rainfall—ideal conditions for producing some of Kenya’s most fruit-forward coffees. In this region, the Kainamui factory serves around 1,800 smallholders from the New Ngariama Cooperative, including about 600 women. Most farmers cultivate less than half a hectare with roughly 200 coffee trees, alongside crops like macadamia, eucalyptus, tea, corn, and bananas. The factory hosts regular agricultural training, and the cooperative offers pre-financing to help farmers cover school fees, production costs, and emergencies.
