Coffee Facts

This is only the second decaf in (our) history that we deemed Keen Coffee-worthy. Colombian Popayán is decaffeinated through a unique process that uses sugarcane to extract the caffeine from the bean. The beans come from 65 farmers in the Cauca (1.700 m.a.s.l.) who are all about quality, just like us.

Colombian Popayán has all of the flavour and none of the caffeine. That’s right, folks, we also do decaf! Popayán is decaffeinated through a unique process that combines fresh spring water and the by-product of processed sugarcanes; ethyl acetate. If you want to get real scientific about it (which you KNOW we want to), the ethyl acetate from the sugarcanes binds the coffee’s caffeine molecules and the spring water washes them away. This process enhances the coffee’s natural sweetness without impacting the coffee’s flavour profile in the slightest, especially when compared to traditional processing methods.
