Happy 9th Birthday to Dog and Hat Coffee Club!!
As we head into our ninth year (woo!), I wanted to share a bit about how much we love our business and our customers — and tell the full story of how we got here.
Back in 2017, I was facing that classic parents' dilemma: return to my pre-sales job in London — or, more accurately, a 40-minute train journey each way — or stay home with two daughters under two. The childcare maths didn't work. So instead, I sat down and wrote a list of the things I loved most: dogs in hats, coffee, and technology. That simply became Dog and Hat, with a logo from the US and a website designed by Dave and me.
We registered the domain dogandhat.co.uk, built the site on Shopify, and partnered with Recharge for subscriptions. In 2020, someone bought dogandhat.com and tried to sell/ransom it back to us for £7,000 — we were bombarded with calls and emails. But the domain lapsed in 2022, and we picked it up for £120. Just a smaller story in our journey!
What we've built:
Over nine years, we've partnered with roasters across the UK and the world, from Papercup and Radical to Colours Coffee, Scenery, and beyond. We added the Bag Shop so people can buy individual bags without a subscription. We built our Magazine, which became a place for real coffee content and conversation — not just fluff. And we've grown a team — huge thanks to Emma, Jim, Olivia, and of course Charlie for all their hard work.
This year, we also gave Dog and Hat a fresh new look. 2026 brought a brand-new website, a redesigned logo, and a complete visual refresh — all built to reflect where we are now, nine years in, while keeping everything that's always made us, us: fresh coffee, great roasters, all delivered straight to your door.
Evolving behind the scenes: we streamlined our dispatch schedule to the 1st and 16th of each month meaning we now do all round shipping! This is a huge step for our small business but meaning we can ship fresh coffee daily to all our customers makes us happy!
Thank you for being part of this journey. Nine years is rare for a small business, and it's entirely down to your support and the relationships we've built together.
Here's to the years ahead
