Manumit is a roaster with a difference in Cardiff, Wales and they roast all their coffee on a gas-powered 1950’s Probat.
Manumit offers dignity & hope to survivors of modern slavery through training & employment. Our coffee is roasted by men and women who have suffered horrendous exploitation at the hands of traffickers and modern slave traders but are now rebuilding their lives.
At our Cardiff-based Roastery we produce excellent coffee that combats modern slavery on 3 levels:
- Sourcing speciality coffee beans from ethical, slavery free suppliers.
- Training and employing survivors of modern slavery as coffeeroasters.
- Investing all profits in local and international anti-slavery projects.
Together we are providing #FreedomThroughCoffee
Eva was brought to the UK having been promised work as a nanny. When she arrived in the UK she soon discovered that this was not the case and was sold to a man who forced her to work in the sex industry.
Eva was regularly beaten & sexualy assualted by her captors and was also made to take a number of different drugs & stimulants to keep her awake as she worked in forced prostitution. She eventually got away from her trafficker, and with the help of numerous partners & support agencies, is now in the process of rebuilding her life.
Despite ongoing struggles with fear & anxiety, Eva is determined to put the horrors of her past behind her & move forward with hope & optimism. She dreams of one day working as a cleaner.
Eva has been roasting coffee with Manumit since June 2017.
Dog and Hat
We met Esther from Manumit when they were our neighbours when Su went down to exhibit at the Bristol Coffee Festival.
We got chatting and the passion and inspiring purpose behind the roastery really shone through.
Coupled with the fact the coffee is pretty darn good too meant that we couldn't wait to get Manumit involved.
