Hello Dog & Hatters!
We’re thrilled to be part of this month’s coffee lineup. And to be popping into your kitchen the best way we know how: through a freshly brewed cup of Baytown Coffee.
Our story doesn’t begin in a city or high-tech lab, but in a converted cowshed between Whitby and Robin Hood’s Bay. That’s where Nick and Ann Louise, along with their four kids (and, importantly, three enthusiastic dogs), swapped the pace of London life for something slower, more grounded, and a whole lot more caffeinated. What began as a lifestyle change quickly became a mission. To roast the best possible coffee.
In the early days, we roasted in small batches, brewed with whatever kit we had to hand, and focused on getting the most from every cup. It’s a mindset that still shapes everything we do. From the start, Nick was lucky to learn from one of the best. David Higgins, his mentor and a third-generation coffee merchant. That guidance helped lay the foundation for our approach.
Fast forward a few years, and our cowshed dream is now a thriving roastery by the sea. Our goal remains the same. Treat every bean with care, honour its journey from farm to cup, and share it with people who love coffee as much as we do. And speaking of coffee love… meet Ted. Our head roaster and in-house coffee whisperer. With over a decade in the industry and Q Grader credentials to his name, Ted leads our roasting with an eye for balance, nuance, and clarity in the cup.
We work with trusted importers who share our values. We select coffees for their quality, seasonality, and potential. For us, it’s about doing things properly, from sourcing through to roasting, with flavour always front and centre. Alongside our core range, we’re always roasting new guest coffees, so there’s something different to discover throughout the year.
At Baytown, we believe coffee should be joyful. Whether you’re brewing on a camping stove, a cafetière, or your go-to espresso machine, our beans are roasted to shine across all methods. We take our craft seriously. And we never forget that a good cup of coffee is one of life’s simplest pleasures. So from our family, our dogs, and the whole Baytown crew, thank you for welcoming us into your cup this month. We hope you enjoy every sip. And maybe even take us with you on your next adventure.
Warmest wishes from the coast,
The Baytown Coffee Roasters Crew
