The New York 24 hour world record

In May of this year Brian Lindo (a popular Youtuber) of New York City broke the world record for most coffee shops visited in 24 hours!

What was the record?

To set a personal record, Brian visited 60 different coffee shops in the Big Apple, buying a drink at every single one. These ranged from highstreet chains to small independant shops. Luckily the rules did not state that he had to drink every cup himself, a few passers by helped him along the way! He kept a meticulous log of his journey in a spreadsheet and saved every receipt as proof. To up the stakes, he managed the entire project using just one single charge of his laptop battery.

The breakdown

Brian only had to visit and buy a drink from 59 coffee shops but wanted to make it a solid 60 for his victory.

lets have a look at the strict guidelines and what he ordered to understand how it was handled:

The Consumption Rule: Guinness guidelines state that a beverage must be purchased and fully consumed (or shared/donated) at every single stop.

His Drink of Choice: To survive the 24-hour sprint, Lindo mainly ordered small espresso-based drinks rather than large cups of coffee.

The Math: If a single shot of espresso is about 30 ml (0.03 litres), 60 of them would equal roughly 1.8 litres of espresso across the entire day.

Could you do it?

Because drinking 60 full cups of coffee would be extremely dangerous due to caffeine toxicity, the ability to share or choose concentrated espressos was key to completing his 24-hour run safely! Do you think someone could make it 61? Who knows.
