This month we welcome back Tom and Mick at Red Bank over in the Lake District with a world-exclusive coffee.  We then head up to our favourite coffee city, Edinburgh, to showcase Machina before landing in London to feature both Old Spike and 39 Steps.

Hello and welcome to the March edition of the Dog and Hat Coffee Subscription.

We have some very exciting roasters and coffees for you to look forward to this month... so what are you waiting for, read on for all the details :-)

For the filter setup I have a Wilfa Uniform grinder and Brewista Smart Pour 2 temperature controlled kettle.

For espresso based drinks I have the Sage Barista Pro.

Welcome to February!  This month we are bringing in three new roasters for you to enjoy on the subscription alongside a returning long-time favourite.

First we head down to Oxford to showcase New Ground coffee and their fantastic social enterprise ethos. Then we cross the M62 to one of the UKs newest roasters, Sprudgie Nominated Blossom Coffee Roasters in Manchester. We then head back down to Winchester on the south coast to feature River Coffee Roasters before returning to London for the reappearance of Amoret and their lovely Art Deco bag designs.

Happy New Year and welcome to 2021 - we were hoping that this year would provide a bit more normality for everyone, but it looks like we have a bit more time to wait for that.

This month we are brining in Redemption Roasters, Neighbourhood Coffee, the wonderful Luz Coffee Project in association with Caffeina Consulting and Blak Nektar from Glasgow.

For each coffee we include in the subscription we add a note to let you know what ‘profile’ it has been roasted to.  This will fall into one of three categories – Filter, Espresso or Omni – and we thought we’d give you a short overview about the three and why some roasters Omni-roast while other split their profiles.

The first rule of Dog and Hat is that there are no hard and fast rules to coffee – if you want to put a filter profile coffee through your espresso machine – do it - and if you want to put an espresso roast coffee through your V60 - that’s ok too.  Coffee tastes are such a personal thing, that you should always do what feels and tastes right for you but we’re on hand to help and guide when you need us.

As is customary for us at this time of the year, all the roasters that are joining us this month are local(ish) so we can minimise delays by visiting the roasters in person to collect the coffee.  This year we'll be making a trip across the Pennines to Manchester before heading back to Leeds and home to North Yorkshire.

Great news - any of the used coffee bags that we have sent out as part of the coffee subscription service can now be returned to us for recycling.

Sustainability is a top priority for us here at Dog & Hat and we always try to avoid using any unnecessary supplies in the business. However, one area that has been troubling us for some time (and is largely out of our control) is the recycling of the used coffee bags themselves.

Our service obviously generates a large number of used coffee bags each month and we have been looking at ways we can reduce our environmental impact in this area. Up to now it has been just too costly for us to provide a solution but we have just partnered with Terracycle to help make this a reality.

We are returning to Europe for one last time this year before Brexit bites and we take a mini break from imports while things settle down.

We also have a new UK roaster joining us alongside two returning favourites from opposite ends of the country.
